Behind the scenes at Noel Customs

When life gives you lemons...

You know the drill! How we made lemonade with this unexpected bathroom remodel/ repair.

An ongoing but unnoticed leak in this bathroom was discovered when termites were noticed in the crown molding and the adjacent bedroom. We quickly discovered that the shampoo niche was leaking water into the wall that the shower shared with a bedroom. As this was unexpected, the budget was limited but we knew we didn’t like the knee high tub or the tile wainscot. Here’s how we remedied the leak (and termites!) and updated the bathroom on a budget and in a hurry!

A before photo of the bathroom- so much tile!

First we demoed the tub/ shower, tile, & the old hardiebacker. Because we were replacing the tub with a shower we moved the drain & added a shower pan & curb. We chose to keep the existing floor tile and work around it. With the goal of making the bathroom lighter, we chose an offwhite tile that complimented the crema marfil floor as well as a 2x2 tile for the shower floor.

We selected a standard shower head along with a handheld sprayer. We love to use this combo in showers for several reasons:

  1. The handheld sprayer makes cleaning the shower so much easier

  2. A handheld spray is excellent for bathing children (and dogs!)

  3. I personally prefer to use only the handheld when I don’t plan to wash my hair, as I have the handheld mounted lower

This shower faucet from the Delta Trinsic collection had the clean lines and functionality that we needed

Finally, we added the shower glass surround and painted the bathroom an offwhite (SW Swiss coffee) which really opened up the space. We were able to significantly update the look and functionality of the bathroom, as well as remedy the leak issue, without having to gut the entire bathroom. We stayed within budget and completed the project in under one month. Next on the to-do list is replacing the countertop, but we’ll save that for another day!

Excuse the child lock on the cabinets (this is real life, we have kids!)
